450 is a lot to spend on a GFX. With G-Train here, that if you have a low end CPU and you put a high end GFX in there it would be like putting 8 cylinders on a car with no wheels..

Going NVIDIA?

- Asus GTX 260 896MB PCIe Video Card DVI/ HDTV - Approx 280

Going ATI?

- HD 4870 1GB DDR5 PCIe - Approx the 220 range.

I do prefer NvIDA cards to ATI and the NVIDIA card above has a higher engine clock speed, although the 4870 is 1GB while the other retains under 900.. not a big difference. Only thing that the size is going to mainly affect is your resolution capabilities.

Anyway, Good Luck :)

I'm running a Galaxy GF9800GT PCI-E 1Gb DDR3 card, it's not top of the heap but well capable of running the games you are interested in. As others have mentioned there is no point having a card that exceeds the capabilities of the rest of your system. Also no point having a Rolls Royce card while you save up for a system upgrade, by the time you do that the card will be bottom of the heap.

My advice is get anything thats going to be compatible with your current system.
But with $400+ to play with Id be looking at something with minimum 1gig.
Just before you ask, Id recommend Nvidia GeForce 9600GT
$180.00 at our local store with 2 year warrenty!!
Good luck let us know what you decide on!!

$180 for a 9600GT seems excessive.

Quick search gave me two significantly lower prices. Presumably with out that warranty. Is warranty worth that much? Only hardware related problem I've ever had was a 15" HP LCD dying after 4 years.
