Does anybody know how to switch MM1 off ingame?

I am unsure if you can just turn off mm1 individually.. however, you can remove it with cg_show2d 0

If you browse HUD settings in the esc menu, it'll have something.

@thkid: MM1 is global chat.

I don't think there is a cvar to disable mm1 but you can always try:

cg_teamchatsonly 1

so you'll only get team chats beeping about instead of the crap from everybody.

If you want to go a bit further to basically turn off all the chatting you can do this:
cg_teamChatHeight 0 //number of rows of chats
cg_teamChatsOnly 1 //toggles only displaying chats from teammates
cg_teamChatTime 0 //duration chats are displayed for

That should turn everything off pretty much. Haven't tested it but see how you go.
