Vista PB annoyance

Hi all,

As of this afternoon I keep getting kicked from ET by PB with the error message in the console is the invalid O/S priv message.

It results in a PB kick for me with a 9006 error code.

Did some googling and came up with the following link: http://community.enemyterritory.com/for ... 20901.html

In there they suggest that http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe should fix my issues. Have tried that and problem persists.

Also, I know about running the game as admin in vista & I haven't changed the way I normally launch the game (run ASE as admin and then connect to OZ).

Any ideas? Anyone else on Vista having this problem?

noob.

o/s priv i think means your pb is not up to date, do a pbweb and pbsetup download and try again :S im pretty sure..

Oh yes, I ran a pbsetup & it gave me a 302 http return code.

Then I did a pbsvc which said that everything was reinstalled fine. I would have thought that a pb reinstall would have me up to date anyway?

Also, where is the pbsetup executable in the ET install dir? I don't see one in my PB directory.

O/S privileges kick can mean alot of things ranging from using a guest account instead of admin to old version of pb on your box and the most common would be due to your firewall.

So make sure you check that ET is excluded from all your firewall cock-blocks.

If your still having trouble download this and stick it into your ET game folder:

Just remove your old pb folder and unzip this right in there, its all updated and working :)

Mkay cheekz, so checked my firewall & it seems pba and pbb are both setup to run from C:\Windows\System32\PnkBstr*.exe

Isn't shouldn't this be pointing to my ET install dir?

Try manually inserting your ET execute file into your firewalls exclusion list.

All my vista boxes don't deal with pba or pbb and I've had no problems :S

Run the following in "WinXP Mode" --> ET.exe + PnkBstrA.exe + PnkBstrB.exe

Windows Vista or Windows 7, will have problems running some older versions of applications, just because so much has changed under the hood from Windows XP days.
Thankfully there is a compatibility mode that can be easily set per application.
To configure the compatibility mode for an application, just locate the installation directory and right click on the .exe, selecting Properties from the menu.

Select the Compatibility tab:

You can choose to run the program in Windows XP compatibility mode, or even all the way back to Windows 95 compatibility.
Probably the most useful setting to start off with would be to disable the visual themes and desktop composition, if you can’t get things working.
If you are trying to run a video game, you will often need to choose “Run this program as an administrator”.
You’ll have to play around with it, but most likely you can get your application working this way.

FYI - this happened to me again the other day for no discernible reason. I tried lots of the suggestions in this thread (running in XP affinity mode / update pb etc) & none of them fixed the issue.

In the end I downloaded cheekz's pb rar and replaced mine with it and that did the trick. TY for posting that cheekz.

So for those with Vista, if you get any better understanding of what is going on with this, pls post here.
