Have you used Avast BR? I like it a lot. Might try out MSE though.
There was a thread on slashdot on this a while ago. The results were overwhelmingly in favour of MSE.

I was told to check out Vipre by Sunbelt because of it’s small footprint but unfortunately that one doesn’t do freeware afaik

The free suite i use is:
Avast
Malwarebytes antimalware
Spybot
Zone alarm
They all play nicely together to keep the bastards out!

To be honest if you aren’t stupid about what you download, you don’t even need an antivirus.
I use Avast myself but in over 2 years it hasn’t said a single word about a possible virus.
The best antivirus you can get is common sense.

i use AVG free, 2009 edition because i cbf updating it. Only thing i use form it is the browser add-on. I use malwarebytes (not stand-alone protection, but probably the best free scanner and remover) about once a month and haven’t gotten anything bad for about a year

installed avira found 55 virus
Zone alarm = slows your pc Down So no point using your pc
