I went SLI because I think that the 290 is the most expensive card on the market. That said, I haven’t checked graphics cards recently.
LOl you guys are all talking high-end market hardware. Were not sure if he can even cough up that much dough.
SLI>>>crossfire…why? MOTHERBOARD!!! Crossfire has not gone far enough like SLI has with the ENTIRE package (i.e motherboard/ram/graphics/progrmas to run it/tweaking etc.)
My specs are middle-top end and its good enough for all the games so far and games to come. I have a feeling he wants something that can run new games well but not a game freak.
One thing I know is that if youre not into computer modelling or want a split screen or even hard core gaming+something then dont bother getting high end stuff that include SLI/crossfire. Its a waste of money and you wont get the benefits…plus this being a somewhat new technology with hardware at the high end spectrum of $$$ it wont be worth it.
@Death try to read the thread before making comments. Blusky have already mentioned he wants a new box that can run new games with a maximum budget of $1500.
As for SLI>Crossfire….. I doubt it since ATI cards run better. Your theory on motherboards can be blown away by checking out the Asus i7 Rampage II Extreme. Its one motherboard that supports multi GPU, both SLI or Crossfire, ddr3 ram support and all the tweaks any asus hardware can muster.
@admiral – the GTX295 is top of the food chain for nVidia cards but i’ll doubt it’ll stay there much longer before a new one is released.

Viewsonic is my preferred monitor brand and i don’t agree with netlots about not having quad core as your wanting a future pc right? and just because games now don’t support quad, they will in the future.I have quad core phenom (amd only coz i am an AMD fan) but intel (spit spit) is leading for games atm.

My last lcd was a chi mai. I called her DOT (had a green dot on the lower left hand side of the screen).
My new wide screen is a samsung, its sweet.
Edit : im a AMD fan too,but they really have dropped the ball the last year or so ๐
Badges? I don’t want your steenking badges!

Um, just no!
XFX ATI 4850 1GB DDR3 x 2 in crossfire = roughly 1 x 1.5gb monster for $400 and will play COD 12 when it comes out ๐ฎ
Bang for buck, Crossfire wins.
And Cheeks, Just cause Chi’s are popular, doesnt mean they are good – just look at Benq ๐

I didnt track him.. my mouse got stuck
i find it funny that Goldstar products where not bought .. coz they where thought to be cheap and nasty now they are called LG everyone buys it.

What I meant was Chi is top notch in the budget range :p and Lol at Benq, I remember when they were released, 9 out of 10 sold had to be RMA’d within the 1st month of purchase and 70% of the ones that made it to 6months had to be returned due to button/power problems.
Anyway enough about that, lets get back to laughing at Trigger Happy and his Dell!!!!! BAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAH
IMO he should be removed from the clan, should also amend the rules so no Dell users are allowed to join ๐

@nelots Bluskys budget of $1500 is a medium-range PC. What you guys are talking about are high end hardware (cost wise). Asus i7 Rampage II Extreme is once again at the high end of the dollar spectrum. It supports both SLI/crossfire but honestly if youre not into hardcore gaming/modelling then there is no need for it…plus the power supply to run that and two 9800GTx2 would be at least 700W and those arent cheap either. Then there is the cooling system….etc etc etc you get my drift.
@G-Train $400 for those XFX ATIs is alot. You have to think of the power supply as well and cooling and motherboard…all of these things ammount to a high cost…way over $1500 if you want your system to run good.
You guys are forgeting that you buy one hardware that is at the high end of the cost+performance spectrum and you have to buy all other parts in the same range.
Your all talking about hardware that is new and high price and high performance….way above Bluskys Budget if he wants the entire package for no more than $1500.
Dual cores are still better than Quad Cores. Both in terms of gaming and upgradability.
Anyway enough about that, lets get back to laughing at Trigger Happy and his Dell!!!!! BAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAH
Your just jealous I prawn you with a dell while you have a 1337 setup.
Suck it up butz ๐
Cheers
@death, my example wasn’t a suggestion, it was an objective comment towards your views of SLI>Crossfire.
I am pretty sure G was doing the same as he is simply disagreeing with your statement with the XFX Ati card as an example.
Lol@Trigger :D, I’m running a pretty cheap setup tbh, asus laptops. I should invest in one of them desktop thingamijigs one day but these days a new car has the higher priority.

Yeah i know but you cant object to my commnet by putting up an example of top-notch hardware; Im talking in general.
SLI>Crossfire since recent times. CPUs can be overcloacked easier with a motherboard that is SLI compatibale than crossfire. AMD athlons used to be superior CPUs that ran great with graphics card but now SLI boards and compatible graphics cards offer much more than crossfire can and tweaking/maintanance is far better in SLI than crossfire dual graphics cards.
I read alot before i made my mind up on which motherboard and CPU i want to run…i.e pentium or AMD and what made my mind up was the easier maintanance as well as better overclocking on pentium based motherboards. This with well build graphics card and now much improved SLI (dual graphics card) interface on those motherboards. DOnt get me wrong AMD crossfire used to be superior and when athlon CPUs and thereafter were much better than intel based…but they went down the drain and if one part goes down the drain then the rest of the hardware wont function as well.
In the end its ones own opinion on this matter but its good to have a read and see what ohter think.
I still disagree with you death.
Top-end hardware is just what it is, the top of the scale whereas the cheaper stuff are simply based on the better hardware with bits and pieces removed for the cost cutting.
Death if you’ve ever purchased or used a top end piece then you’ll understand that it is every way possible to overclock as the hardware is made for it. The reason why people don’t is simply because they don’t need to.
Also hearing you mention AMD athlons is starting to give me the impression that your sources are well out of date, AMD is in the phenom era :p.

Athlons used to dominate the computer scene since they could be overclocked without problems and gamers enjoyed their reliability. When phenoms came about, intel lifted its CPU reliability and soon took over while phenoms became less “user friendly”. I’m talking about when AMD was on top of its game, then intel started to give us dual core processors etc.
Top end hardware is not what Blusky is looking for, this is the jist i get. He wants something bit more than casual but not hardcore. Top-notch hardware crossfire and SLI performs quite evenly now but overclocking dual core on an intel motherboard is way better than AMD based one could do (at this stage). If youre running dual graphics cards then surely you would be thinking of overclocking your CPU…this is what i mean by hardcore gamers…they dont get dual graphics cards into their motherboard if theyre not gonna think of overclocking their CPUs…and quite frankly intel based/SLI configuration works better than AMD/croffsire. Thats my view on this but i know you have a different one.
BUT motherboard manufacturers are now implemetning both crossfire/SLI compatibility so you never know…you will get the best of both worlds ๐
Don’t know what youre on about Death but there are mid-range motherboards that are intel based and supports crossfire(Asus P5Q Deluxe).
I think you need to do some research on updated sources :p
