Awaiting Gamestate Issue

Over the last few days we have had a few notices that players are getting stuck on awaiting game state between matches, we are looking into this issue to see the cause of it currently. Please upload any information you may have that could help us to detect this issue.

Regards, BR

Symptoms:
Normal to long connection times (ie sits at awaiting gamestate) can be anywhere between near instant to a few minutes.
At end of map it goes to summary screen, but often it does not leave it for a long period of time, and then i am suddenly spawned inside a wall (or other weird location) on the map i was just playing, instead of the new map being loaded.

Attached is wireshark analysis of connecting after it took I think about a minute to get from awaiting game state to loading the map. (wireshark)
and also the analysis of a bad map change, in this one i was simply disconnected from the server instead of being loaded into the previous map though.

So I now haven’t been able to enter the game in the last 20 minutes. Whatever the problem is it has to be right after establishing network contact with the server, I’m not sure whether its a proper connection or not, but from the logs you can see that both the server and my client are sending something? to and from each other. The logs indicate the server is consistantly sending two different sets of data.
And I am constantly sending the server one set of data.
It could be useful if someone who was not having issues could send through their log so it can be compared to ensure I have complete packet flow?

It’s odd that noting was altered and the issue “suddenly arose”, it’s also perculiar that the issue is primarily occuring in NZ. The server by default will ban an IP for a short period of time if it notices too many connections hitting it (part of our DDOS protection). I’m guessing it may have something to do wiht an intemediary device between you and the server, possibly one of the telstraclear servers, that’s backing prioritizing data and shooting it all through at once. This would then cause the server to temp ban your Ip from connecting through to the etpub mod correctly, it send back a blank response I believe if it detects this (and since it goes straight to awaiting gamestate during a nextmap by default, this is the stage it gets stuck on, if you wait a minute or so it would reconnect I assume if this is the issue.

I will furhter look into those logs and our code.

Regards, BR

A new program has been written to semi-automate the offensive IP’s ALONE, into the firewall DB. We have it inputting a bunch more IP’s soon. It’s still in progress.

Problem appears to be fixed 🙂
Although how does this program distinguish between a true ddos’er and an actual player?

Have you played recently G? This issue should be resolved now, a new version of the script is in progress to hopefully prevent this from occuring.
