Hi All,
I have decided I need to format & I need advice about backing up passwords etc in FireFox 3.5.5 to migrate from winXP 64 bit to a win7 64 bit O/S.
The file path within FireFox for the passwords is Tools/Options/Security/Saved Passwords/Show Passwords & click Confirm if you have told FireFox to remember passwords for for any site you have visited.
Before anyone suggests saving my cookies,I think I have a lot of garbage cookies & don’t have the user knowledge to be sure which ones I genuinely need & which ones are garbage.
I know how to backup my bookmarks & have already done so,now I just need to do the passwords.
I did some Googling & a FireFox extension came up called FEBE https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2109#support
Another extension by the same author is CLEO (Compact Library Extension Organizer) which is said to work well with FEBE but sounds like it might be geared at developers. [url] https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2942?src =”reco[/url”] So may be too complex for what I want it for.
Would someone mind taking a look at these & tell me if I’m on the right track or is there a better / easier alternative than these extensions.
My goal is to export then after new O/S is installed do an import of all old bookmarks /passwords & plug-ins would be nice too if I can.
I have already looked at the following FireFox guides but they did not appear to relate to recent versions of FireFox. :flamer:

For ease of use, I just use the Xmarks plugin to sync my Bookmarks and Passwords to an online server. It might not be what you are looking for, but check it out anyway. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2410

TY Keith,
It fits the general idea of what I’m trying to achieve but I am aiming for an offline backup to an external USB HDD & not internal network synchronization (for a single client only)with no online facilities.
The extensions I posted above may have given the wrong impression & my lack of understanding the mechanics of how they work, doesn’t help my cause much either.
I do see a genuine use for this kind of extension for allowing duplicate settings across a multi-client environment using multiple browsers (but syncing with IE? No thank you !)but unless I can do an offline back only, this is not the FireFox plug-in I am looking for, ideally, a manual back-up using settings native to FireFox without additional plug-ins extensions etc is what I am after.
I will look into it further, but not right before a format.
Cheers
