Basically i can tell you what is happening but in regards to fixing it….. well im not entirely sure.

Punkbuster sends our heartbeats every few seconds. An example of this is when it goes to update itself on the master server list. Most configs for most games allow you to change the rate of the heartbeat but obviosuly too fast can affect gameplay (this is server side).

Secondly to fixing it well, when you vid restart it temporarily pauses et and resets ur video settings and re-renders ur screen causing it to pause, so u may loose connection to the pb server for a while or even to the other pb process on your computer which are pnkbstrA and B. I Believe it would be B cuasing you this problem however i may be wrong.

Steps to try and fix

– Try Updating you pb (even if you think its updated, it may fix a problem or an error or corruption)
– Try setting your rate a little higher our servers max is 30000 so try that

rate 30000

– Try raising your max packets

cl_maxpackets 100

– Check if you have any scripts running at the time whcih could also be lagging out et overly when you do a vid restart. (if your config is overly big it may be cuasing this prob aswell, try vid restarting with a default cfg for your profile)

Could you also please post up the exact error code and problem that it kicked you for as it would be more help for me to understand what your problem exactly is

thnx for the input bro…i have submitted a ticket to pb and they basically told me to uninstall, re-install and then update

which i did, and it didnt fix it…ill take a screenshot of the error this arvo when i get back from Wollongong.

Is not a good example as thats not a heartbeat. A heartbeat is a signal that PB sends to make sure it still has a connection to the punkbuster server, which ensures that people on the server are not playing without actually being connected to punkbusters master server. A heartbeat is not caused by any of the other functionality of pb, its just a packet that is sent out at regular intervals to make sure the connection to punkbuster isn’t lost (hence the name heartbeat, just like sending blood around your body at regular intervals :p).

i vid restart when i exec my cfg…which is wheneva i start a scrim, when eva i go onto a server with dif mod, wheneva i have chnged it (which is constantly)

Yep, thats what BR was talking about in his description, that means that punkbuster b skipped a heartbeat. There isn’t really much you can do about it, usually pb doesn’t die when you vid_restart, but it seems in your case it is, and there really isn’t anything you can do. But if you click the reconnect button it works again aye? So although its an inconvenience, look at the bright side its not as if the game won’t work anymore :p

lol…yes it is…when i hit reconnect i get the error incorrect pk3 files referenced, only way to fix that is to restart game…and there ya go, i needa vid restart again for all my video settings to apply.
