I just bought a new 23 inch LG widescreen monitor. And everytime i set resolution ingame to 1260-1040 or what ever it is (cant remember exactly) my fps goes down quite a bit. Why is this? i would have thought that the bigger screen would mean that i could use a resolution that high. Or is it something to do with my bad gfx card?
card I’d say is working harder on larger display settings.
My monitor is 23.5 WS & I have my fps on 76 by default in my cfg ,I can run 125 stable as,but 200 get’s unstable.
Have you got latest monitor drivers from manufacturers website & not the ones that came with the box? Update gpu drivers from nvidia or ati to the latest?
Sometimes updating soundcard drivers may help fps.
that’s all I got soz.

higher resolution requires more video memory, perhaps increase page filing size.
to increase page file, in vista: click on start, right click on computer go down to properties, click on advanced system settings on left hand side, in the advanced tab click on performance, settings, in the advanced tab at bottom you will see virtual memory, click on change and at bottom it will tell you minimum,recommended and what it is currently set at. mine is on auto with page file size of around 6gb
what is your graphics card?
All the ways you wish you could be, that’s me. I look like you wanna look, I f*#k like you wanna f*#k, I am smart, capable, and most importantly, I am free in all the ways that you are not.
Yeah – the higher the resolution the more pixels the video card needs to render….which means working harder.
Doubling resolution (say from 640×480 to 1280×960) actually means 4x as many pixels to render…so lower FPS.
If the card can’t handle it, the only option besides upgrading video card is dropping quality settings to increase FPS.
So you might drop color depth from 32bit to 16bit in game…..Maybe turn off anti-aliasing on your video card in Windows settings.
The other thing is ET is OpenGL-based, not DirectX… The quake game engines by ID software were always OpenGL.
Which is fine – but from what I understand OpenGL performs much better on certain traditional resolutions like 800×600.
So resolutions suitable for these days on widescreen LCDs like 1366×768 or 1920×1600 might not perform very well at all…
Cheers.

and well you should.
Test.
VGA Memory has nothing to do with pixel rendering, dont naf ya system up by changing ya page file system.
Your system page file should be half the amount of what your physical system memory is in total, excluding VGA memory allocation loss.
Your more than likely experiencing FPS lag at higher resolution due to the lack of GPU processing power.
Anyhows, direct from my config, you could try the following. My settings are set for use with HD resolution.
You can change the resolution settings to suite your own needs marked in RED. And FPS also marked in BLUE.
// DISPLAY START
seta r_aspectratio 1
seta r_customaspect 1
seta r_mode -1
seta r_customwidth 1920
seta r_customheight 1080
set com_maxfps 76
// DISPLAY END
//
// HUD START
set cg_fov 110
set cg_drawtime 2
set cg_lagometer 1
set cg_drawfps 1
// HUD END
