Excuse my derpiness but isn’t threads handled by the CPU?

P.S – the price of a small SSD can buy you a small and medium/large 3.5″ Sata HDD

Your an inbecile full stop.

noobItUp <> sorry I started playing with butz again

lol at you guys.

Id still go a small SSD or raptor for OS and games and a larger 7200 rpm drive for data. I would never have a 1tb drive or higher as that is way too much data you could potentially lose in the case of a HDD crash.

Option 2 would be to get 2 500gb drives and raid 0 em for performance.

either way is better than a 1tb primary drive.

Cheers

Thanks choo choo.

64bit doesnt address more than 3.5gig of ram so getting 8 gig is a waste if running 32 bit.

dual core will suffice for home use unless you want to being trying to run several programmes at once.

32 bit does 4 gig total. If you have a 512mb video card, then this consumes .5gig so the result is 3.5gig of addressable space for the rest of the OS.

My point is this has nothing to do with multi threading!

Retract or DDoS!

Test.

@Antag:

6850 = high-end video card with out ridiculous price. For anything more powerful, the price goes up ridiculously.

Get that as your graphics card, and then an i5 760, 4GB 1333MHz RAM and a mobo, and whatever hard drives you want.

If you are adding in a case and PSU, you probably won’t be able to get it all for under $800 though. Just reuse them, and your optical disk drive from your existing computer.

If you just want CPU + mobo + RAM + graphics + maybe HDD, look at the recommendations up in my very first post.

Could always get a 30GB SSD like Horus said, if you have a fast enough second hdd. No point in your OS being on an SSD if all your data is on a 5400rpm drive.

The core i5 series cpu’s all lack Hyperthreading iirc , but paying that extra cash for HT will reward you in FPS in game.

core 17 are all HT (Hyper Threading ) enabled but you have to choose which socket type.

Skt 1156 = dual channel memory (cheaper)
skt 1366 = Triple channel memory (better if you have the $$$ ).

Intel’s cpu site here http://ark.intel.com/

Cheers

With the budget Im starting to lean towards a 775 setup, but something like a q9550 or qx9650 – give them a mild overclock to say 3.6, SSD the baby up, strap on a h50, budget should be fine. At least for current games. www.forums.overclockers.com.au – check em out, join in and get a bundle of advice, after 90 days membership you can access the trading forums (getting a 6870 for $200 delivered and only one week old – how goods that? Will buy another in a month or so and crossfire heaven. Gives you a hint what you can do, lots of people are saying the 6850 is better but I prefer standard clocking gpu’s.

Quad core CPUs are not really intended for gaming (neither overclocking); your best bet is with a dual core.

I’m still an intel/asus/nVidia fan so here is my 2c on a future gaming rig.

MOBO: Asus P7P55D-E-Pro ($195)
CPU: Core i5-650 (3.2GHz) (2x CPU) ($193)
RAM: 4G Kit ddr3 2000 Kingston T1 ($125)
GPU: 1GB GTX460 ASUS ($217)
PSU: Coolermaster GX Power (650W) ($109)
CASE: REALLY UP TO YOU

TOTAL: $839+CASE

I paid for my around 1K mark.
