Hai guize

I own a Thompson TG782T teltra bigpond modem-router. Untill last night, I had a good passworded network set up, my laptop on wireless, and the family desktop on Ethernet port 1. My mum brought home her work laptop yesterday afternoon and asked me to hook it up to the wireless network.

When trying to connect i had forgotten the wireless password, so i went on my laptop (connected to the internets via the wireless system) and changed the passsword to something i could remember. When I tried to connect through the second laptop onto the wireless it spent 10 mins “aquring network adress”. After that 10 mins nothing had happened and so i decided to stop the process. Then i thought that maybe the wireless network was sh!te and could only support one wireless connection (i.e. laptop) at a time, so i disconnected my laptop from the wireless.

Now both laptops cannot cdonnect to the modem-router wirelessly, both having the never ending “acquiring network adress” message.

I turned the modem off for 5 mins then back on, no difference. I pressed the reset button on the modem and that still did nothing.

Can anyone help me out?

(posts saying “get a new modem” or “ditch the wireless” are not helpful.)

If you wanted to be my friend you wouldnt say i have pooey pants

What O/S are you using there Joke?

Make sure you log into your modem/router & check that NAT (Network Address Translation) is turned on in your modem then save the change before you reboot your modem.
NAT enabled = recognize & allow more than 1 computer on your network (more importantly,on to the internet).

Next,if your using W1nd0z3 go to your start menu & click on run (xp machines) or search box under vista & win7 & type cmd (command prompt).

then type ipconfig/release (this will disconnect your machine from the network) then type ipconfig/renew (this will reconnect to your network)

if it worked properly typing ipconfig in cmd prompt will give you an IP address.

If you are using vista & win7 ,you will get an IPv4 & an IPv6 address, IPv4 will be recognized by any W1nd0z3 machine.

http://compnetworking.about.com/cs/windowsnetworkin1/ht/renewipaddrwxp.htm

Check link first.

You will only have to do it for wireless machines, oh & check all the machines are on the same workgroup!

You may have to assign dynamic IP or static IP’s & check which channel you are using for wireless,it should be the most isolated channel you can get so you have no interference for cordless phones /microwaves/or wireless keyboards & mice.

Details about your modem/router can be found here http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc/hardware/?action=h_view&model_id=897

Cheers

If you are just not able to connect and you did a brand new setup of your router.. ensure that DHCP is enabled on your router, so that it is providing all connections with an IP to connect to the router.

Oh also just a though, if your mums computer came from school…. just to double check.. Go

manage network connections -> right click on all adaptors, ethernet and wireless, right click them choose properties -> Select Internet Protocol Version 4 -> Then Select Properties -> Select to obtain IP and DNS automatically then hit OK and then OK again.

Good Luck, post up here If I was to brief with anything.

Cheers, BR

If you hit the reset button, you will have to setup everything again, including enabling wireless and setting password.

For some reason I’ve always had problems when connecting devices with different O/S’s like one Winblows XP machine and the other Vista on the same wireless.
Turns out I needed the Vista support plugins or drivers :S

Also when its stuck on “acquiring network address,” its because your wireless setup is borked(well that’s the majority of my experiences with that anyway).
So just reset the wireless network and set the network again but make sure its running before attempting to connect your devices.

Your an inbecile full stop.

noobItUp <> sorry I started playing with butz again

Also check to see if your firewall/antivrus software isn’t blocking connecting from the gateway IP. Or generally isn’t blocking any networks.

Your modem/router manual is here http://www.thomson.net/GlobalEnglish/customer-service/SpeedTouchDocuments/xDSLGA-VoIP_SetupUserGuide_TG782_en_102008.pdf (2.8MB d/l folks)

Look at section 4 in the above manual to section 4.3,if you have factory reset your modem have you lost all your ISP settings? (can’t connect to the net even on your Lan connection?)

Telstra BigPond Technical Support 133 933 hours 24 hours, 7 days (not,I’m not trying to advertise, telstra is bobbla).

You should have at least service pack 2 on all xp machines,if you have xp 64 bit at least service pack 1 (it says at start up if it’s 64 bit).

There is a button on your modem for WPS connections according to the manual ( it will do WPA2-PSK network set-up but it does not support WEP,ie Nintendo DS’s can’t connect).

Slow typist / slow reader ,still reading your manual ๐Ÿ™

Mystik has this same router & getting slammed on packet loss.

Oh ip release & ip renew cmd in cmd line ( google for exact details ) would solve your wireless problem I think.

Old link is redundant , try this one.
