One of the most often asked questions we get asked here at oz is “How do I fix my lag?”

It only takes one person in your household watching a 720p video on an ADSL 2+ connection to give your ping a small heart attack ingame.

You’ll notice it as lagging like video stuttering while moving/shooting with horrible rego ingame & with high or fluctuating ping.
For ET players the lagometer will have occasional to very frequent red lines depending on how fast your internet is & routing to the server.

The more video’s being watched in any household at the same time , the worse it’ll be.
The solution is simple , cap the video resolution used by YouTube , Facebook , ABC iView , Vimeo , TwichTv or any other video streaming services while you or members of your household are ingame.

The more people watching video in your household who cap their video resolutions , the better the gameplay for everyone else.

360p is fine for most windowed video without really losing video quality

For those of you with High or Unlimited Bandwidth per month limits who use YouTube as a media player ,
if you are only listening to a song but not watching the video because your on a different browser tab or ingame ,using 240p video resolution will be fine without really affecting the sound quality unless it’s a poorly made recording.

144p resolution is for using as a radio/sterio more than a video player though it may be ok for small screen mobile phones I suspect.

Full Screen & Large Video player even at same resolution will use more bandwidth than a small player / windowed video played at the same resolution.

Here’s a few screenshots I knocked out in windows paint to give you an idea , i don’t have any video editing software to align frame by frame properly.
But colour mismatch aside , pixel detail is the obvious clue , the larger the pixel , the lower the resolution which is more than fine for just music or not watching fullscreen.

One minute of video bandwidth consumption
Bandwidth Consumption Stats =
Divide by 60 for One second
Multiply by 60 for one hour
