I am running Windows XP SP3 and am connected to the internet through a Comcast modem and Belkin router. It says my internet connection is excellent and this problem does not occur on the other laptop in the house. I have tried many things and there are no viruses or firewall problems. I decided to run IE’s diagnostic thing. It said there was some problem, that I was told could be solved by using Winsock XP Fix (because whenever IE tried to fix it, it claimed it fixed it and to restart my computer, but then when I would restart, the problem would still occur and be detected). After using Winsock XP Fix, the problem stopped for a few hours, but is now back again and this program does not solve it anymore. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Does your NIC have a driver applet ?

Ive experienced this problem first hand and it was caused by the driver applet that was installed for the NIC.
After using MS online updates, the NIC driver was updated and MS uses the NIC vendor drivers, not the Motherboard manufactuers 3rd party driver set.
This causes a conflict with the driver applet. If you do have a driver applet, Id suggest uninstalling both driver applet and driver.
Get the latest driver from the NIC vendor and just install the driver only.

Internet Explorer is the standard for Government & Business because it comes pre-installed with windows, which is why it is the standard for Hackers. :flamer:

I would suggest you find a different browser for your internet. ๐Ÿ˜€

Hi Jojoking. Ive been here 100 times before. You’re being tricked into running random unsafe programs. This is why people say its unsafe using Internet Explorer or Windows. Its a trickery thing and billions of people are running identical machines. You’re an easy target.

How to solve your problem is a rather nasty issue but you have to understand why. You have two choices:
Completely wipe the hard disk and reinstall.
Or
Struggle for eternity trying to figure out the software used to hijack your machine.

Why?
You’re going to get 101 recommendations from people on how to fix your machine. The bottom line is that none of these programs know entirely what has been done to your PC: This is the nature of spyware repair: Its post-mortem. The machine is already compromised. You cannot trust any software running on that computer until it has been erased from scratch. Its like sawing the branch that youre sitting on. Ignore all these twits advice. Cake knows best.

Cakes step by step solution to fixing a compromised Windows machine:

Copy all non-program material to a safe place (documents, music, pictures, but no EXEs or DLLs)

Completely nuke your machine. Run your Windows setup CD, and tell it to format the hard drive.

    Continue with installing Windows.

Ensure every single Windows Update is installed before you do anything with the computer.

Copy your music & stuff back to your machine.

Download new versions of your programs off the web or update them all. Games, everything.

    Now you have a choice:
Do not go to any popular sites until Microsoft releases a fix for Internet Explorer.
    -or-
Use a different browser (just use Firefox. IE has no purpose anymore cos its behind the times)

The bottom line is that security is not something you download or buy. Its using your head. Out there people want you to run stuff on your computer and they want your information. Using IE is like browsing the web without a condom. Remember there are more stupid people in the world than smart people. All the smart people use Firefox or Ubuntu ๐Ÿ˜›

does this box go out to the internetnt? HI MUM! LOOK IM BPUTTING WORDS ON THE COMPUTR AND THEY COME OUT THE OTHTER SIDE ON OTHER PEEOPLESSSSS COMPUTER

This is one that is currently getting around on Facebook http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_Antivirus_2009

I had a client get it from facebook and i could not be bothered weeding it out so i backed up the important stuff (scanned as it was copied) and formated/re-installed problem solved.

p.s. i use google chrome pretty decent so far ๐Ÿ™‚
