Hahah, whooooooo!. I don’t know if anyone else was following AFACT vs iinet.. But really to see AFACT lose this battle against iinet means a lot for internet users of Australia. Can you imagine what would happen if they got sued for damages or copyright.. or even worse forced to take action against EVERY SINGLE one of those internet uses caught with illegal activities on their account such as downloading copyrighted materal.. and then it would only be a matter of time until other ISP’s were cornered into following ii’nets actions. (or at least the smaller companies)

There was a case of this in America or Europe I cannot remember 100%, but either way the company fined thousands of people.. not only destroying its reputation BUT what about those kids who live with their single mother’s… they were forced to cop massive fines for their childrens activities.. besdies a good ol’e beating, It would have caused massive havoc.

1+ to iinet, being one of the best ISP’s in Australia and holding up against AFACT for thier 2 month testimony (or was it longer..?)

Cheers, BR

Don’t forget AFACT has the option to appeal the ruling and anything can happen in round 2.

I’d still put my money on iiNET ftw if there is a round two, judging by the costs that the loosers have to pay Im backing in they walk away and dont try round two.

What I don’t get is why target iiNet & not Telstra directly?

Or did they want a legal precedent against a company with a smaller budget (ie. Legal Team) than themselves?

Arguing ISP’s facilitate copyright infringement is bobbla,Telstra own the infrastructure,go after them for some LOL’s. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

I doubt money will be a problem to AFACT, they’re backed by multi-billion dollar corporations plus this is a legal precedence case that they really want to win in order to get the ball rolling on furthering their ‘let’s sue everyone who uses p2p to leech our shit.’

Because Telstra is government owned

Lol. Does that mean the telstra shares I hold are bogus? ๐Ÿ™‚

Nah, Sony and the other companies have way more money than IINET.

And it was the Napster users that got hammered last time.

Thats why everything is Torrents these days as noone can really be held liable except the end user.

LOl ye read it today in Mx newpaper on the train…someone left yesterdays paper on the seat and whaalaaaaa presto…ISP wins over piracy LOLs.

There was another interesting one with regards to some aussie band copying “koala in the gum tree’ tune and the lady/teacher who made that song will get paid royaltes of up to 60%….it was some big aussie band back in the 80s that copied it.

Then its the drug thinngy with the cats players caught with possesion and all…..

Ahhh Mx is that schiiizzzz when youre stuck on a platform due to a delayed train OR your train is running slow.
