So my bro is up for a contract renewal and wants to gain an above average raise + benefits……
I have nfi on the subject since I havent worked for anyone for years so anyone have any suggestions on how my brother can suck up to achieve this monumental feat?
His performance figures for the past financial year are solid so the numbers are good but he just needs that extra kicker, serious suggestions only please!

Last i heard (news report) 80 odd percent of employee’s don’t feel strong enough in their work to ask for a raise.
If your bro really think he deserve’s it , i feel best aproach would to just ask for it, maybe put bit of self sellin in there too.
So along lines of,

G’day Boss,
I’ve worked for this company now for …….. and have done a gr8 job, I honestly feel like i deserve a raise and was wondering if you had time to discuss this?

But the boss is going to want to hear his side to why he should.
But hey i recon all ya can do is ask, Whats the worst that can happen.

Maybe you should fuc.k off and mind your own business…
Food for thought.

Alright Nelots, here goes nothing – good luck to him ๐Ÿ™‚

Before he starts to set up a meeting with the boss to arrange talks of rises ask him to do some research in this market, do some background research on the company and the payments made to fellow employees. Also look around at what other companies that are in the same business are offering. Listen to what your employer announces, so if he/her usually announces a certain percentage then that is harder then usual to negotiate.

If you have a handbook or anything that may assist you then look into that, there may be policies and processe that exist on how to get a payraise or what specifics you need to have shown. Now this is all the background stuff for the particular interview or meeting try and do this ๐Ÿ™‚

– Make a list of goals that you have accomplished for the company, show how determined you are to help the company. These will help justify why you deserve a pay rise.

– Make a list of additional responsibilities that you have added to the job. This means things you have done that are not stated in your job. You might have done extra projects or increased your responsibility

– Set a pay increase goal, something that is rational and makes sense

– Read up on how to negotiate and how to do it without being pushy, you may have this skill or you may have to develop it through talking to others.

I hope this helps ๐Ÿ™‚ Goodluck nelots brother

I guess a little more info needed here butty. Are we playing hardball or softball? Hardball = your bro is prepared to walk. Softball = please sir can i have some more?

If he wants to play hardball he has to be prepared to walk. Is his industry conducive to finding alternate employment quickly?

If he is playing softball, one thing I have done in the past is to keep an email folder called “FIGJAM”. Any time something that makes me look like I have done “Over and above” sort of thing it goes in there. Then when my yearly appraisal rolls around I can just hit that folder for all my nooby good deeds throughout the year. Its this sort of stuff you want to go in armed with when you are telling your boss that the sun shines out of your you-know-where.

Either way, being able to demonstrate you “go the extra mile” sort of thing is important. Just doing the job isn’t generally enough to get ahead. Examples of having good ideas and following through on them is important.

At the end of the day, don’t be surprised if they have already made up their mind. If this is a corporate (and I believe it is), the outcome of such a meeting may have already been determined by factors outside of his bosses control.

Is this pay review subject to some sort of appraisal process? I could give you my thoughts on that, but not in a public forum ๐Ÿ™‚

Failing all of that he could just try this guy’s approach:

Test.

Ok, maybe I didnt say it right, this is the professional hardball championships and my brother is in the finals against Dodgy McSoftcock.
To relieve some of the suggestions from embarrassment, my brother is a senior risk analyst meaning he knows all the background work and performance data required for the sell so thank you for your comments.

@Joy in an office environment, absolutely nobody will discuss their contract terms, pay and benefits and I am pretty sure there are clauses in everyone’s contract which specifically states that.

P.S – I have begun a master plan and so far it seems to be working……. here is a jist of whats going on and will update in due course.

– I have a few mates in HR at various banks, both domestic and international plus they all owe me favours!
– I have called in my favour from each of them and they are to systematically contact my brothers boss to inquire about his employment status and the whole seebang(so far one have called and my brother has a meeting with the boss at 5.30 today).
– Tomorrow another one will call with the same sentiments and so fourth.
– I have initiated steps to start a new financial business, this is a phantom shopfront to further exacerbate my brothers worth and I will contact his boss to like the others.
– Sit back and wait for the offers to roll.

On the off chance you aren’t joking, i’d strongly advise against this.

Too late, stage 3 contact have already been initiated plus my brothers renewal negotiations have been bumped up a few months to be finalized by end of month.
