IMo best server/PB settings were on Node just before it was removed for ET:QW.

Gameplay was smooth and PB scanning/lag was above tolerable. OGN preety much picked up alot of the Node settings further on and OZ should too but it looks like they have made too many changes based on one/two people at a time and now settings are all over the place.

I shall see how my gameplay goes with PB on late tonight (will be on after midnight or so). Just remember that im on dialup so whatever lag related issues happen I feel its results magnified.

I still would reccomend XP reset after 8hrs or so and make the achievements harder to obtain that was people are bound to stick to one class.

@G – afiak antipro is only for ETpro and theres no mac support for it either so I’m guessing OZ will not implement antipro even when its completed.

Sure, but PB doesn’t only kick for hax. Within 30 secs of turning it on the other day, 3 people were kicked who weren’t haxing. One was because their name was too short (changeable in config, sure), another for a GUID error, and another because they weren’t on the best network. None of them were using hax, but had their game disturbed by being kicked none-the-less.

All those 3 could easily fix their problems in less than 1 minute.

A stable, lag-free PB functioning on the server is the goal, and hopefully we’ll get to that – BUT if having PB on makes more people’s game annoying or unplayable than hax it catches, what have we actually gained? If we lose people like Mess, blusky, Hicksy, and Rippa playing on the server in the process, is that an improvement?

Lag-free PB on OZ server is pretty much a fantasy, imo its a combination of horrible server specs and a horrid server config which causes the bulk of the lag when pb is on. The other factors will be the end-users hardware specs as you can see most of the people complaining are playing on 5yr old+ computers with AGP graphics cards.

Heres a suggestion to the admins, turn PB on with minimal settings, add more checks(md5) to the config until 30% of the regs start complaining about the lag.
End result will be PB on, less work for admins in regards to checking hackers, you wont need to worry about name stealer since PB can fix that and the lag will be minimal since you can set the number of checks performed.
Best of both worlds……. K GO!

BR gets kicked for one of them. I think Porter and a few other OZ members got kicked when the server streamed to them last time. And they managed to invent some lag to go along with it. But I’m +1 for it.

Below are the only differences in values between ours and Middy’s suggested config.

pb_sv_AliasMax 5 (vs 10)
pb_sv_AutoUpdBan 0 (vs 1)
pb_sv_ChangePeriod 300 (vs 999)
pb_sv_CvarFreq 2 (vs 4)
pb_sv_CvarWalk 0 (vs 1 – usually 1, testing 0)
pb_sv_DupNameGrace 0 (vs 20)
pb_sv_GuidRelax 1 (vs 0)
pb_sv_KickLen 3 (vs 2)
pb_sv_MaxDlRate 1 (vs 3 – usually 4, testing 1)
pb_sv_NoGuidGrace 1 (vs 5)
pb_sv_Restrictions 0 (vs 1 – usually 1, testing 0)
pb_sv_Sleep 15000 (vs 500 – usually 500, testing 15000)
pb_sv_UpdateGrace 600 (vs 800)

I don’t see anything there that would add lag, but I might be missing something.

pb_sv_Restrictions 0 (vs 1 – usually 1, testing 0)
pb_sv_Sleep 15000 (vs 500 – usually 500, testing 15000)

Those are good settings for testing PB. Maybe bump pb_sv_CvarFreq back to 4.

I suspect the PunkBuster lag is due to the Cvar settings… PB slows me, but I don’t lag-spike like others.
By disabling the Cvar walk it is probably helping client-side which it seems is where the PB lag mostly exists…

Hehe. I’ve seen players blame lag on PB even though PB was off and had been off for a week πŸ˜†

Cheers.

Lets face it, the telecommunication/internet infrastructure in Australia is below par. With a 80% rise in complaints to Telstra no wonder people are annoyed with lag. There are too many people using it and when saturday evening approaches my dialup becomes worse and worse.

This PB lag seems quite random…so random that I would put money on that ISPs have issues with overlaod during peak times AND the infrastructure is old and where the server is situated…well just makes it worse i guess.

New National Broadband Network

The Rudd Government today announced the establishment of a new company to build and operate a new super fast National Broadband Network.

This new super fast National Broadband Network, built in partnership with private sector, will be the single largest nation building infrastructure project in Australian history.

This new National Broadband Network will:

* Connect 90 percent of all Australian homes, schools and workplaces with broadband services with speeds up to 100 megabits per second – 100 times faster than those currently used by many households and businesses
* Connect all other premises in Australia with next generation wireless and satellite technologies that will be deliver broadband speeds of 12 megabits per second
* Directly support up to 25,000 local jobs every year, on average, over the 8 year life of the project

Under the Rudd Government’s new national broadband network every house, school and business in Australia will get access to affordable fast broadband.

So where is that! i wish they would HTFU!
