Just an idea to possibly solve the crisis thats in the thread.
(also a suggestion which is why its here)
How about an admin or 2 whose sole job is to deal with the hackers.
To gather evidence to deal with suss hackers and to receive all claims of hackers.
Not to mention to look out for hackers when playing (or specing just to watch for hackers)

Someone who is willing and able to drop everything no matter what when receiving suss claims.

Could solve the problem being talked bout in Check the hackers thread.
Not to mention take the heat off some certain admins <__>

Just a thought

Won’t work since the 2 elected admins won’t be online 24/7 thats why more than one admin/mod/ref is required and the workload spread out to further improve the process across the board.

Your an inbecile full stop.

No like recruit MORE admins specific for the job instead of streching the current admins out.
Not to mention they dont have to be on 24/7. Players online can report to these dedicated admins on the forums or pm.
So then these admins know to follow it up and deal with it, instead of getting a grumpy admin who in reality has no idea what a hacker looks like.

In a perfect world that would work but in reality it wont.
If such a thing did occur then it’ll be sweet for the first few months before laziness kicks in.

Instead of recruiting specialized admins, it’ll be more worth while to educate the existing bunch on how to catch/spot a hacker or deal with certain matters.
At the moment pretty much everyone has their own interpretations of the rules and guidelines which not only confuses themselves but also confuses the players tremendously and thats not taking into consideration about the notion of changing certain rules to justify their actions as mentioned on other threads.

Also contacting said admins after an incident is useless since majority of hackers will alias everytime they connect so it’ll be hard to track and follow up on.

Like any organisation you are going to get different types of people. OZ is no different in this respect as there are some who will drop everything to spec a hacker and you will get others who just want to play a bit. You will find that if you ask any of the admins (horus, overmars, hicksy, br), they will drop everything and spec the dudes. These guys can actually pick up a hack too so generally these are the people you want to talk to. I personally often drop what I am doing to go and spec a hacker too if I am pm’d about a player being suspect and other OZ members will too. The new level system will aid players to find who to look for in regards to dealing with hackers. Senior Server Moderators and Server Moderators (the one between junior and senior) are the ones you want to go to as they have the !ban commands. Junior server moderators are still good to alert as they will have commands to at least rid of him for now and can get the higher ups to do the banning once they have evidence.
That being said, if you are suspect of someone, get a demo and pm an admin to review it and they can make the decision if they are hacking or not. Generally it takes a lot of regulars’ input to the skill of a player and I nearly always ask a higher skilled player what they think of the player I think is suspect as they are more than likely just better. But, when they are also suspicious, then that is when I closely watch and record demos of a player to see their play and to see if there is anything out of the ordinary.
So if you want to help your gaming experience to keep it free of hackers, help out a bit and demo them for us and give us a heads up when you think there is someone suspect in a PM and we hopefully will get it sorted.

Cheers

1. Type ~ (tilde key, next to the 1)
2. Then type /record , then ~ again to close console.
3. Follow the player around who you think is haxing. This is easier if you use
/follow name (where name is their name, or a unique part of it)
4. When you have a few incriminating things, go back to console and type /stoprecord
5. The file will be in your etpub/demos directory. Review to be sure that it shows what
you thought it did, and then upload somewhere for others to see.

Anything else needed?

Open ET, then go to Mods, and load etpub.
Then go to Replays, and choose the demo that you took.
Then turn on r_shownormals 1 for extra clarity of tracking and preemptive movement, knowledge beyond hearing, etc.

I know how to check for hackers continously. Its called PunkBuster.

expecting a human to give up their playing time to look at someone who someone else has cried “hax” about is like expecting to have your problem solved by Telstra customer services, or like expecting good internet from TPG.

If you wanted to be my friend you wouldnt say i have pooey pants

Im going to let you all into a little secret

Alot of us Admins work and work 8-12 hours a day

So sometimes when we log on all we would like to do is relax and play a few maps just like the rest of yous!

So if theres a hacker on and hes not crashing the server
Does it really matter if the Admin who is on, who is DONATING his or her time, who has donated some of their hard earned cash so
they can come on and play a map or 2 after works and try to enjoy playing a map or 2, takes their time in sussing out an alledged hacker?

Fornicate me

Maybe alias if you just want a few games after work instead of joining up with your tags on?
Hopefully your opinion about allowing hackers to stay online if they’re “not crashing the server” is only yours. I don’t think I’ll need to expand on that since its obvious you have no idea about the rules of OZ ie.Hax=instant ban or kick in your case.

Interesting viewpoint, I am gonna say yes it does matter. If you’re an admin that doesn’t do your job then essentially the only reason you have your powers is to smite only those people who annoy you personally. I think this would frustate a lot of players who might be getting bled/tked/haxed and know you could help them out but selfishly choose not to. I would compare it to a person who donates time in a soup kitchen but instead of serving homeless people soup he just eats a bowl himself (the same as donating time as an admin but instead of sorting out problems uses the powers only to please themselves).

Also I don’t think you can draw much sympathy with the “I have a job card” since that is a common thing these days. Nor do I think you can draw sympathy because you are ‘donating’ your time – if you don’t want to do it there are like 40 other applicants who would.

Maybe give it some thought next time you get asked to do your job.
