is alienware overated?

someone i know is buying a new laptop and a bunch of my friends say they should got alienware. is alien worth the price?

Alienware M11x owner here, love the bobbla out of it. Runs all my games at top graphics/performance etc. with no problems at all and let's not forget that the design and colour-changing keyboard are sexy as bobbla. This laptop will get me laid someday, watch me.

The Asus boxes you recommended are priced around the $2100-$2500 range, the equivalent Alienware boxes are in the same price range(ie: M15x & M17x) so how did you come to the conclusion that Alienware is not worth the "inflated asking price"?

Just because Alienware is a subsidiary of Dell does not mean they've been restructured to produce lesser quality products.
The change that happened with the acquisition was that Alienware is able to tap into Dell's supply chain thus lowering their operating costs.

I'm not sure if they're made the same way as dell laptops, but dell laptops come in just one massive chip, so if something goes wrong (hardware wise) or you want to upgrade a part, you have to buy a new one all together

Alienware is upgradable. Pretty much all laptops(except MACS) above $1500 is upgradable with the exception of the cpu since they're almost all thermal glued in place.

im going to stand up for mac their are good for everything except gaming i had one untill i upgrade to a pc for gaming reasons. put pc is better so lets not change this into a mac vs pc thingy.
